A LEADING financial institution in Kenya has expressed interest in establishing a branch in Zambia.
Zambian High Commissioner to Kenya, Mumbi Phiri told journalists in an interview in Nairobi that, Equity Bank of Kenya would set up a branch in Zambia and create employment opportunities.
Ms Phiri said Zambia’s bilateral relations with the east African country had continued to flourish.
“This is one of Kenya’s leading banking institutions which has shown interest to invest in our country Zambia.
“The people of Zambia stand to benefit massively from Equity Bank once the financial institution starts operating in Zambia. It will offer loans at low interest rates,” she said.
Ms Mumbi said the High Commission was working hard to enhance trade and bilateral cooperation between Zambia and Kenya.
She said Zambia’s trade volume with Kenya stood at US$20 million per year while that of Kenya with Zambia had increased to about $47 million.
She said there was need for Zambia and Kenya to balance up their trade.
